Many clients get a home inspection on an old home and wonder “is the wiring OK?” They ask this because of HGTV shows showing dangerous wiring, and they read stories of house fires. But what is the reality of older wiring?
For one thing, old does not necessarily mean bad. Older homes have older wiring, and if the wiring is in good condition, then what would make it defective?
But on the other side of things, some older wiring may not be defective, but may still be a ticking time bomb. For instance there may be knob and tube wiring, older wiring that is cracking or breaking, and there may even be aluminum branch wiring that needs to be tended to.
In either case, older wiring being good or bad is very much situational. So be sure to contact us and have a proper inspection to determine if your home’s wiring is safe or not.
